CHRISTIAN DE MASSIS
Christian De Massis was born in Ortona on January 6, 1981. After graduating from Spaventa High School in Montesilvano in 2001, Christian decided to continue his studies and expand upon his interest the earth and science. He enrolled in the school of geoscience at University G. D’Annunzio, Chieti.
In 2004 he moved to Rome to study (degree in Geological Sciences in 2008), where he embarked on his first photographic experience. In 2006 he began working for the sports magazine AlwaysSport through which photographically approaches to sport for the first time.
In 2007 Christian made his debut with the agency Ciamillo-Castoria of Rome, during the NBA Europe Live Tour, working in Italy and all over Europe (Italian League A, Euroleague, Eurocup, NBA Europe Live Tour Championships, European and World Championships). He became published in several newspapers and sports magazines (Gazzetta dello Sport , Corriere dello Sport, Tuttosport, Superbasket, Sport Week, Cosmopolitan, DreamTeam).
Over the years, Christian has collaborated more intensely with Giulio Ciamillo and Elio Castoria, (the principles of C&C); he regularly works with the European Basketball Federation (FIBA), the World Basketball Federation (FIBA World) and Italian Basketball Federation (FIP). In 2009 Christian was recognized in Sutor Magazine in an article covering new Italian talent in basketball photography, he now covers all of the major basketball events in every continent and his work is published throughout the world.
Christian’s photographic background spans several branches of photography; he is able to capture everything from fast-action sports, beautiful moments in nature or humanity, to highly technical studio photography, always getting great results. Currently Christian De Massis continues his search for new ideas in photography; he works and travels in effort to connect with many kinds of people and share realities. “I photograph to keep the moment- to not forget, even the small things- to communicate.”
